Abstract

Dave Georgia, a warden with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, says that poaching is on the rise in Maine, with much of the illegal harvest going to satisfy the demand for certain body parts that can command hundreds or even thousands of dollars on the black market. Black bear gall bladders, used as an aphrodisiac in the Orient, can sell for as much as $540 per ounce in Asia. Details.
