Abstract

As part of a regional effort by the six New England states to stop the distribution of fireworks, around 20 inspectors from the State Fire Marshall's office will fan out across Maine this weekend to target individuals who use illegal explosives. A three-week initiative has already yielded 1,000 pounds of illegal fireworks worth $30,000. Last year in Maine, two dozen people were injured and a number of fires were started because of illegal explosives during the Fourth of July weekend. Details.
