Abstract

Vandals knocked down 41 gravestones in Portland's Evergreen Cemetery over the holiday weekend, bringing this year's total to more than 300 toppled headstones. There are more than 60,000 grave sites on 115 acres in the cemetery, and 100 to 200 stones are vandalized in a typical year. Mount Sinai Cemetery, a much smaller cemetery near Evergreen, was also targeted last week, with 20 to 25 headstones sustaining damage. Details.
