Abstract

Towns in at least four of the state's school administrative districts are seeking to withdraw from the districts, at the same time that state policymakers are considering a push to further consolidate schools and districts for the sake of efficiency and variety of offerings. The Maine State Board of Education, which had its interest in school consolidation sparked by a report on the issue by Josephine LaPlante of the University of Southern Maine's Edmund S. Muskie Institute of Public Affairs, has scheduled public hearings on the matter. Details, related article.
