Abstract

Susan Collins, the Republican gubernatorial candidate, is having trouble gaining the support of the far right wing of the Maine GOP. Four of five conservative groups invited to lunch with Collins today declined the invitation, and the Portland Republican City Committee last month wrote to Collins telling her that most Republicans don't share her support of gay-rights legislation. Collins was one of four candidates in the eight-person Republican primary who favor abortion rights and one of only two who support gay rights. Details.
