Abstract

The Portland Observatory, built by Captain Lenuel Moody in 1807 as a signal tower for vessels entering Portland harbor, is owned by the city of Portland and maintained by Greater Portland Landmarks Inc. The city's Public Works Department is currently replacing a rotting floor support, and the building's irregular shape is posing unique problems for those doing the repairs.
