Abstract

The Maine Supreme Judicial Court yesterday declined to rule on legal isues surrounding the case of Barbara Anastosopoulos of North Waterboro, who filed suit against two doctors for failing to counsel her to be tested for HIV when they knew she was a former prostitute with a history of intravenous drug use. Both Anastosopoulos and her five-year-old son have AIDS. A trial judge and lawyers petitioned the court to interpret a state law that forbids damages for the birth of a healthy child and limits damages for the birth of an unhealthy child. Details.
