Abstract

Stone & Webster and the Maine State Building and Trades Council yesterday announced a labor-management agreement covering the construction of a paper recycling plant at the Auburn Industrial Park. Under the agreement, the project's 250 construction workers will only receive 90 percent of their wages, with the remainder going into an interest-bearing account. The workers will get the other ten percent by staying within labor-cost estimates and meeting deadlines. The agreement is one example of the efforts that unions are using to help them get contracts.
