Abstract

The Seacoast Shipyard Association, the independent lobbying arm of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, last week began a publicity campaign aimed at keeping the yard open. The latest in a series of layoffs will begin in ten days, and 940 workers will be either laid off or will retire early, leaving the yard with half the work force it had five years ago.
