Abstract

Negotiators from countries that build 80 percent of the world's commercial ships this week agreed to halt subsidies to shipbuilders by 1999. This could help American shipbuilders like Bath Iron Works re-enter the commercial market for ships. BIW President Duane Fitzgerald said that his company has the responsibility to change the way it does business so it can compete on the open market. Details.
