Abstract

Maine Secretary of State G. William Diamond yesterday announced that his office will defend the eligibility of Republican gubernatorial candidate Susan Collins to appear on the November ballot. Mark Finks of Falmouth, a GOP activist, has challenged Collins' residency status in Cumberland County Superior Court. At issue is whether Collins' temporary residence in Massachusetts in 1992 and 1993 makes her ineligible to serve as governor under the residency requirements outlined in the Maine Constitution.
