Abstract

The Maine Department of Human Services yesterday released the results of a survey of high-school-age youth in the state, and officials said the findings demonstrate a need for increased public health education efforts. Responses to the survey by 2,421 public high school students and 200 youths not in school showed that high-risk behavior was more of a problem with the group that was not in school. Officials said the survey was taken from too small a sample to generalize statewide, but indicated there is cause for concern about the rates of risky behavior.
