Abstract

Maine is one of a dozen sites for the U.S. Small Business Administration's Women's Pre-Qualification Loan Program. The program was launched after the SBA realized that women own 38 percent of all small firms but receive only around ten percent of SBA-backed loans. The Maine office has been one of the busiest in the pilot program, receiving 25 applications and working with banks on the approval of five loans totaling $560,000. Details, related article.
