Abstract

People from away are paying premium prices for a piece of Chebeague Island, putting island real estate out of the reach of most working-class natives. The island, 4 1/2 miles long by 1 1/2 miles wide. IT is the largest in Casco Bay not accessible by bridge and has a year-round population of 325. Chebeague has been a popular summer tourist destination since the turn of the century, when the local granite industry died out. Details.
