"Maine Milestones" piece on Margaret and Clifford Smith, who, for five months in 1970, hiked the 2,000-mile Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia. The two became the 54th and 55th individuals to hike the trail, and just the second and third to do it from north to south. Details.
