Abstract

Since late 1992, the non-profit Friends of the Maine State Museum has raised more than $30,000 for the "Save Maine's Colors" campaign, which hopes to preserve the state's historic flags and banners. An estimated $365,000 to $905,000 is needed for the conservation work, depending on whether it is done in-state or in Massachusetts. There are more than 200 flags and remnants in the Maine State Museum's collection, around half of which are from the Civil War era. Details.
