Abstract

Around 1,000 members of Local 6 of the International Association of Machinists, the largest union at Bath Iron Works, attended a meeting yesterday to hear union president John Dionne explain the terms of a proposed contract between the union and BIW. Most of the workers are upset with the concept of teaming, a proposal in the contract that will bring employees and company officials together in making joint decisions about the future of the shipyard. Dionne indicated that if union members reject the contract in next Friday's vote they will probably end up going on strike. Details.
