Abstract
Portland city officials and the Deering Center library branch committee on August 23 will review two options for the new facility, one that will provide for 2,000 children's books and 800 adult books and a more expensive option that will allow for 2,000 children's books and 6,600 adult books. Barbara Buttrick, 81, and Maryanne Driscoll, 70, who have been advocating for a Deering Center branch for nine years, are concerned that the first option is unfair to adult library users, and point out that adults outnumber children in Deering Center. The city last fall purchased a single-family home at 377 Stevens Avenue for the branch library. Details.
