Abstract

U.S. represenative Olympia J. Snowe, the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate running against Democrat Thomas H. Andrews, will hold a news conference today to announce the formation of "Democrats for Snowe." She is expected to be accompanied by seven Democrats, including Linda Abomson of Portland, who ran against Andrews for the Democratic congressional nomination in 1990, and by Lewiston city councilors Normand Poulin and Peter Greniere. Scott Hutchinson, once prominent in Democratic circles and a former president of Key Bank, is expected to be named chairman of "Democrats for Snowe." Andrews yesterday announced the formation of a similar group after learning of Snowe's plans. "Democrats for Andrews" will be headed by Peg Tebbets, a registered Republican and Kennebunk businessworman.
