Abstract
Maine's Roman Catholic diocese has filed suit in Cumberland County Superior Court against the St. John's Federal Credit Union in Brunswick, claiming that credit union officials were negligent when Muriel Fournier, the former bookkeeper at St. John the Baptist Church, cashed phony checks and deposited large sums of money into her account. Fournier, 61, admitted to embezzling $516,000 from the church, and served six months in jail. Her son, Michael, is serving an eight-year prison term. Details.
