Abstract

South Windham village was one of the earliest settlements to emerge as Europeans moved up the Presumpscot River from Casco Bay, and through the years has been a major transportation link between Portland and western Maine and home to the Androscoggin Paper Mill and a steel mill. An influx of young residents, drawn by the river, the village setting and affordable housing, are seen by some as foreshadowing the revitilization of the village. Details.
