Abstract

Jayne Greer Hurley, 37, the Sanford native and researcher for the Center for Science in the Public Interest in Washington, D.C., says that a talk over pizza in Pat Farnsworth's pizza place in Orono set her on the career path that culminated in research showing that movie popcorn and Chinese, Mexican and Italian foods are higher in fat than commonly believed. Greer was a junior at the University of Maine at Orono in 1977 when she changed her major to food nutrition, and later went on to an internship at the Medical College of Virginia and work as a dietitian at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
