Abstract

Tux Turkel writes about "Taking Care of Our Own," a book about York Hospital by Susan Garrett, hospital administrator from 1978-1983. In her book, Garrett talks about the special niche filled by small community hospitals and how they strive to meet the challenges of access, quality, and affordability. She argues for the survival of such institutions at a time when the politicians talk about the need to shrink the number of hospital beds.
