Abstract

Over the next two weeks, Pentagon officials will consider cuts in 11 large weapons systems, including the destroyer program that provides Bath Iron Works with a large part of its work. A memo from Deputy Defense Secretary John M. Deutch suggests that the Navy consider reducing the number of destroyers it purchases annually. BIW and Ingalls Shipbuilding Inc. in Mississippi are the only shipyards in the nation that build the destroyers. Details.
