Abstract

The archaeological dig below the Great Falls Dam in Windham, which Central Maine Power Co. (CMP) decided to turn into an experimental public education project, last weekend drew between 350 and 400 people. The visitors were allowed to assist in the work, and numerous pieces of prehistoric pottery and stone tools were uncovered. A CMP spokesman said he hopes the company will open up future digs to the public. The utility was required to conduct the dig before developing the site into a public boat launch.
