Abstract

Managers of the Maine State Retirement Systme are critical of the McKernan administration's plan to spread out payments to cover the unfunded liability over 40 years instead of the 25-year amortization now planned. The critics say that while the plan will provide $120 million in services now, it will add billions of dollars in additional interest costs over the longer term.
