Abstract

"Pulse" article reporting that Maine Employers' Mutual, in a attempt to reduce the cost of workers' compensation insurance, has started a toll-free line for employers to report work-related injuries. The company said that workplace injuries reported within five days cost an average of $5,804 in medical and lost wage benefits, while the cost of the same injury reported after 30 days is $15,583. Maine in 1993 led the nation in the number of lost workday cases, with 5.6 per hundred full-time workers.
