Abstract

Nathan Hamilton, an archaeologist at the University of Southern Maine, in June excavated an archaeological site at Point Sebago in Casco as part of the university's Archaeological Field School. The stone tools and flakes recovered from the small knoll not far from the northeast shore of Sebago Lake are evidence of a Paleo-Indian campsite dating to around 9,000 B.C. There have only been around ten Paleo-Indian sites found in the state, and the Point Sebago site will add to the knowledge that exists on Maine's earliest inhabitants. Details.
