Abstract
The state Task Force to Study the Safe Mobility of Maine's Aging Population, created by the state Legislature last year in response to concerns about elderly drivers, will consider proposals to make drivers over 75 renew their licenses every two years and to start testing drivers over 40 for vision and mental disabilities. A lengthy draft report under review by the task force concluded that problems among the state's elderly drivers are similar to national trends, which show that accident rates among drivers begin rising around age 60.
