Abstract

Nermina Omeragic, 14, was evacuated from Bosnia one year ago with the help of Veterans for Peace, the Portland-based organization that has helped provide treatment for 26 Bosnian children. Nermina's shrapnel wounds were so severe doctors thought she would lose her right leg, but the reconstructive surgery the girl received at Maine Medical Center was successful. Nermina and her brother Nermin last night were reunited with their mother, Mensura Omeragic, whom they hadn't seen since they left Bosnia. Details.
