Abstract

The state Bureau of Taxation last November installed a new computer system, and since that time the regional retail-sales data the bureau issues have been either wrong or unavailable. Numerous errors were discovered in the monthly taxable-sales reports, and state officials recently stopped issuing the reports because of the problems. The data are used by businesses and government planners as a key economic tool, and provide information in making such decisions as whether to expand, raise prices or make a loan. Details.
