Abstract

The blizzard of 1993 did extensive damage to the clam industry in Cutler, plowing millions of clams from their beds at Little Machias Bay. Waves drove ice cakes into the beach, shoveling out the mollusks and scattering them over the tidal flats. Most froze or were eaten by sea gulls.
