Abstract

The state liquor commission yesterday denied an attempt by the Maine Grocers Association to prevent the opening of a discount liquor store on the Maine Turnpike in Saco. The MGA, which says the store would hurt local businesses that sell liquor, will move ahead with legal action to block the store's opening. State representative Herb Adams of Portland said he filed a preliminary bill that would make the state examine its long-range liquor pricing policy and establish a more public process for the siting of discount liquor stores.
