Abstract

Profile of Fran Brennan, 58, an executive vice president with Unum Corp. Brennan in 1981 checked himself into a substance abuse program, and later spent three months in a private mental hospital for treatment of severe depression. Hired by Unum in 1984, he became the architect of Unum's acquisition of other insurance companies and entry into new markets.
