Abstract

G.M. Pollack & Sons has closed its store at 531 Congress Street, ending the company's 46-year presence in downtown Portland. Stanley Pollack, owner of the 10-store chain, said the company decided to close its flagship store because of the amount of time it could take to see the Congress Street area fully revitalized. City economic development officials and representatives of Portland's Downtown District say the closing runs counter to a positive trend that has seen 15 new businesses open on Congress Street in the past six months.
