Abstract

Philip W. Villandry, 24, of Chebeague Island, yesterday filed suit in Cumberland County Superior Court against Maine's Roman Catholic diocese and an unnamed priest, alleging the priest sexually assaulted him in 1982 in the confessional room of a church in Portland. Villandry's lawyer said evidence has been uncovered showing that the diocese transferred the priest in the mid 1980s after a similar allegation of sexual misconduct with a young boy surfaced. The suit seeks $1 million in damages, and marks the third time that civil allegations of sexual improprietes involving a Roman Catholic priest have reached a Maine court. Details.
