Abstract

Maine's telecommunications system, with more than 50,000 miles of fiber-optic cable and a high concentration of digital switching stations, is being touted by state officials as one of the best in the country. L.L. Bean, Unum Corp. and Hannaford Bros. have added thousands of telemarketing and information-processing jobs in the state over the past few years, and MBNA Corp. on Thursday announced that it was expanding in the state. State officials are actively marketing Maine as a site for further growth in the telecommunications field. Details.
