Abstract

More than 80 fishermen yesterday attended a National Marine Fisheries Service hearing in South Portland, one of at least a dozen being held along the East Coast to help federal officials determine tuna regulations for the coming years. The fishermen claimed that NMFS estimates on the size of the bluefin tuna stock are wrong, and cited recent National Research Council figures that show the stock to be two to five times larger than the NMFS figures.
