Abstract

Barber Foods Inc. of Portland this week began demolishing an adjacent vacant building to make room for a 10,000-square-foot expansion at its St. John Street facility. The company in 1992 announced that it was considering expanding outside of Maine, in part because city zoning prevented growth at the facility. City officials and the Portland City Council last year assisted Barber Foods in getting the necessary zoning change that allows the expansion to go forward. Current production space will be expanded 25 percent, from around 40,000 square feet to 50,000 square feet. Details.
