Abstract

Vic Firth Inc. of Dedham, Massachusetts, the world's largest wooden drumstick manufacturer, on Thursday purchased Banton Inc. of Newport for $780,000. Banton, which manufactures drumsticks, wooden rolling pins, dowels, pepper mills and other products, filed for bankruptcy protection in March. Thursday's purchase by Firth kept the 125-year-old company from shutting down, and preserves the company's 57 jobs.
