Abstract

Gregory W. Powell and Robert Goldman, both residents of Bowery Beach Road in Cape Elizabeth, are circulating a letter against a proposed zoning amendment that would allow homeowners to build apartments for relatives or tenants. A 1990 study showed that Cape Elizabeth had little rental housing compared with other Greater Portland communities. The town says allowing accessory apartments will offer the opportunity for more families to care for aging relatives in their homes and will create lower-priced rental units in an area that has few.
