Abstract

Cumberland County's insurer recently paid around $30,000 to jail inmate Donald McInnis to settle a lawsuit that alleged a guard smashed his face into a cement wall. Jail inmate Dana Goodine received $6,000 from the county as compensation for allegedly being sprayed with a chemical agent while locked in his cell. The county is currently fighting a suit by Noreen Clark, a female inmate who claims that former corrections officer Craig Elliott assaulted her last year. Elliott pleaded guilty to assault in the incident involving Goodine, and all three cases raise questions about misconduct by jail guards in the sheriff's department. Details.
