Abstract

Maine merchants near the Canadian border say an increase in the amount of duty-free goods that can be brought back from Canada has hurt business. U.S. Customs officials last month increased the amount of allowable duty-free goods from $25 to $200, which combined with a favorable exchange rate makes shopping in Canada a bargain for Americans.
