Abstract

The Portland metropolitan statistical area remains the largest such area in Maine, according to recent Census Bureau data, with an estimated population of 222,050 in 1991, making it the nation's 145th most populous metropolitan area. The Lewiston-Auburn area was ranked 255th with 92,962 people, and the Bangor area was 256th with an estimated 92,466 people.
