Abstract

The 1st Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld the 15-year-old court order known as the Pineland consent decree, which guarantees services for the mentally retarded leaving Maine's institutions. The ruling stems from a suit filed two years ago by Pine Tree Legal Assistance that claimed the state was providing inadequate care for the mentally retarded.
