Abstract

Under special legislation, 192 state workers have retired but continue to work with a 20 percent cut in pay, allowing the state to save $1 million in salaries and benefits. But the program has cost the Maine State Retirement System $1.2 million one year, and officials there are concerned about legislation which could continue the program.
