Abstract

Damariscotta's Skidompha Public Library, which has served residents of Nobleboro, Newcastle and Damariscotta for nearly ninety years, is involved in a controversy. When library trustees asked Nobleboro for more than $7,000 for the Library, the town's voters responded by refusing to contribute any money. Instead, they appropriated $3,000 to pay for library cards of residents who wanted them.
