Abstract

Maine's Libertarian party has announced that it plans to lead a drive to make tax increases subject to referendum, and anticipates gathering more than 80,000 signtures by early next year to bring the proposal to the Legislature. The party's two-year-old status as an officially recognized political party in Maine is under review because it received less than 5 percent of the vote in the last election.
