Abstract

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection has given conditional approval to the relicensing of five dams along the West Branch of the Penobscot River which help power the Great Northern Paper Co. mills in Millinocket and East Millinocket. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will make the final decision on the papermaker's requests for new 30-year licenses for the dams.
