Abstract

Gov. McKernan announced that he will seek to replace savings from his now-scuttled plan for Medicaid reductions with up to $198 million in pension benefit reductions for state employees and teachers over the next two years. McKernan also said he is determined to find alternatives to continuing the temporary tax increases which are scheduled to expire the end of this fiscal year, but he has not ruled them out as a revenue source.
